And The Number Is....Week 60 Weigh In

150's Here I Come!!! That's right. I am officially in the 160's and on my way to the 150's!!! I am definitely excited about this one. The 150's sounds so awesome! I am so motivated to get there.

Today when I stepped on the scale the number that I saw was 169.4. That's a 1.6 loss from last week. Yippee!!! I am so close to being able to post a new update pic in my sidebar. I just can't wait. It will be my 50 pounds lost picture. That sounds so crazy. I really never thought that I could lose 50 pounds and now I am only 2.8 pounds away. It really is doable. I can't wait to compare my first picture with my 50 pounds lost picture. It's gonna be fun. :)

It's been a rough week physically and emotionally. My husband is still not feeling very well so we have been going back and forth to the Doctor all week. Tomorrow we will go for more testing. It has been very tiring because I haven't been sleeping well. I think I am having trouble sleeping because of my running injury. I am in so much pain when I lay down. I am going back to the chiropractor today so hopefully I will feel better after another adjustment. I also have a nasty head cold on top of everything else. I am so ready to start feeling better and have my husband back to normal.

My Week In Review:

1. Exercise: no gym, the shred or running since Saturday. I am ready to start exercising.

2. Water: Yes - Tons of water

3. Late night eating: A little to much light ice cream.

4. Snacking: I did pretty good with snacking. I really enjoyed my pears this week.

5. Eating more fruits and veggies: I ate lots of fruits and veggies this week.

What do I need to work on for next week:

I hope to get back to exercising this week. I will find out more when I go to the chiropractor today. I am going to continue to eat more fruit. It really seems to be helping me feel more satisfied. That and I discovered that I love pears almost as much as watermelon. :)

What is your favorite Fruit?

Running Injury

It's been confirmed. I indeed did injure myself running. Crazy. I went to the chiropractor yesterday and had my hips, legs and lower back adjusted along with my neck and shoulders and upper back. The neck, shoulders and upper back was not related to my running injury. The chiropractor said that I should have been able to lift my legs one and a half times higher then I could. No wonder I was in so much pain the past few weeks.

I felt so much better as soon as he adjusted me. I am still in pain and more so today then after the adjustment but definitely better then before the adjustment. I am not allowed to run or exercise until I see the chiropractor tomorrow. Then he will see how I am doing and let me know if I can go back to running. He told me that I need to stretch more before and after I am done running.

Have any of you ever had a running injury before? How did you deal with it?

I guess I need to figure out how to deal with it and prevent it from happening again. I need to find instructions for some good running stretches. If anyone has any advice on stretching please let me know. I am pretty clueless when it comes to running.

Back On Track:

I am back on track with my eating. I did very well yesterday. I had two 1 point English muffins for lunch with three slices of turkey bacon on them. They were very filling. For a snack I had three of the new 1 point Weight Watchers Peanut Butter Cookies. All at separate times through out the day. They are a little too good! :) Actually they are chewy, have a great peanut butter taste and are surprisingly filling. I really feel satisfied after eating just one.

For dinner I made crockpot chicken and stuffing. I love this recipe. I actually changed it up a little by eliminating the cream of mushroom soup and adding some water, fat free sour cream and a little Weight Watchers mexican shredded cheese. It turned out great. Then my after dinner snack was a 1/2 cup low fat ice cream.

Today's breakfast was one 1 point English muffin with three pieces of Turkey bacon and of course a huge cup of coffee to wake me up. I am actually feeling pretty good today. I think my adjustment is helping my energy level. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I will be able to exercise again and have energy to do so. :)

I hope you all have a great day and for all of you doing the Pudget 30 Day Challenge. Only 6 more days of the Shred left after today. :=). You can do it!!!

Stressful Week = To Much Ice Cream

On Saturday my husband scared me pretty bad. We spent the morning at a Children's Fair and the afternoon at a Children's Museum for a friends Birthday Party. After that we were exhausted but had to go to Walmart to get the girls snow boots to go tobogganing at my in-laws the next day.

On the way home my husband was driving and told me that he felt dizzy and that I was going to have to drive the rest of the way. I thought maybe he was just tired so he pulled over and I started driving. Then he told me that his neck and face hurt and he felt like his throat was closing up and he felt really dizzy. So of course we went right to the Emergency room.

I dropped my husband off at the door and then got the girls in the double stroller and went in. By the time I got in my husband was already taken back which scared me because there were lots of people in the waiting room waiting for their turn. The woman told me that it might take a few minutes to get him situated. So after about 10 minutes I started to really get concerned. Finally after about 20 minutes the nurse came out to get me. She seemed really concerned and asked what happened and how my husband was acting before we came in. I told her everything and she told me that his blood pressure and heart rate were through the roof. Of course by that point I was scared to death.

She said that they did and EKG and his heart looked good but they had to do some blood work and X-rays. It was pretty scary. His blood pressure was 166/105 and his heart rate was 136. Not normal for a 30 year old man. To make a long story short they did the blood work and found that his potassium was very low. They feel that the potassium caused all of the problems. The Doctor said that a potassium that low will just drain your body of energy and make all of your muscles cramp. This is why his heart was affected.

It was a scary couple of days and I am glad they are over. I just thank God that he is Ok and that it wasn't anything more serious. I can't imagine living my life without him. He is the best husband in the world and I love him so much.

The poor guy is still is feeling pretty tired but his heart rate and blood pressure are getting better. Still not good but better then the other night. The Doctor said it will take a few days for the blood pressure medicine and potassium pills to kick in. Hopefully we will get more information when he sees his Doctor at the end of the week. Please keep him in your prayers.

And onto my stress eating. On Sunday night I ate a King Size Hershey bar with almonds for dinner. Don't tell anyone. :) Last night I ate two big bowls of light ice cream after dinner. I don't know what is wrong with me. It was probably a good three cups. I really need to get away from eating unhealthy when I am stressed. When I am stressed I don't want normal food and I don't want healthy food. All I want is junk food. Make it stop!!!!

Today's a new day. No Doctor's appointments today and we are getting back into our routine. I am back to my healthy eating. No more binging on junk food. Hopefully I didn't mess my self up to badly for this weeks weigh in. On Sunday morning I was actually in the 160's but I think it was just from not eating dinner on Saturday night. I was honestly to tired. I just went straight to bed after we got home from the ER. I'm sure the candy bar and ice cream made up for it.

As for my workouts I haven't run or done Jillian Michaels since Friday. I'm not sure if I will do either today either. I am going to the chiropractor this afternoon because I am so much pain. I think I may have injured myself running. My lower back is killing me and it has kept me from sleeping much for about 2 weeks. I finally figured out that it isn't Fibromyagia pain (which is a lot harder to determine then you think.) and that I need to have something done or I may never sleep again. I'm not sure if I injured myself running or not. I started noticing the pain when I run but to me it seems like a odd place to injuring just from running. I am interested to see what the chiropractor says.

The Pudget 30 Day Challenge is going very well. Our contestants are really staying strong. We are on day 23. That means only 7 more days to go. You guys are awesome! Size 12 Pictures

I have had so many requests lately for some update pictures. I decided when I started this blog that I was only going to put progress pics on my sidebar every 10 pounds. So as much as I want to post a new picture on the side I am not going to yet. I still have another 4.6 pounds to lose before I can post another picture on the sidebar. This gives me more of an incentive to lose. I love to look at my pictures on my sidebar and see the difference between each 10 pounds lost. It really is a good motivation for me to lose each 10 pounds.

I can't believe that in another 4.6 pounds I will have lost 50 pounds. That sounds crazy!!! That is a lot of weight. I guess I really never thought that I would make it this far. Not that I thought I wouldn't make it. It is just really hard to picture yourself losing 50 pounds. I think it was just to much to think about so I took baby steps. To me every ten pounds is a step. A step towards the new, healthier me.

I thought that since I am not going to post pictures in the side bar yet I can still post some pictures of me in my new size 12 clothing. I only have pictures of myself in one outfit from wal-mart but I also went to the mall today and tried on an outfit. I didn't like it and I didn't end up buying myself any clothes but it was nice trying something on in a smaller size. I am going to post the picture just for fun but for some reason I just didn't like the pink sweater.

My size 12 Wal-mart outfit. ($7 jeans & $7 sweater)

My silly pose. My sister made me do it.

Size 12 outfit at Macy's - I didn't like it enough to buy it but it felt good to try on a size 12.

My sister and I being silly like usual. :)

My sister Heather who is on her own weight loss journey. She has lost somewhere between 12 and 15 pounds. I am so proud of her. She is really trying hard and exercising everyday. She is doing awesome and I see such a big difference in her already. She looks fabulous!

I just wanted to tell everyone that today we have completed Day 18 of the Pudget 30 Day Challenge! Great job everyone. You are all doing great. It is so hard to do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred day after day. I guess it's not the Shred that is so hard. It is exercising every day for 30 days. No just exercising but hard exercising. I just wanted to tell all of you that you are doing awesome and I am so proud of you all for sticking with it. Only 13 more days to go. We can do this! If you need more motivation then that just think about these great prizes.

Are you still wondering what I did today?
I went shopping. Guess what I bought? Size 12 Jeans!!!! Yep, I am finally in a size 12. I feel like it took me forever but it was worth all of the time and effort. I feel so good. I started at a size 18 and now I can say that I am in a size 12. It is such an exciting feeling. Not only did I fit into a size 12 pair of jeans but I only paid $7.00 a pair on clearance at Walmart. So of course I bought myself 3 different pairs. They are all really cute and you just can't beat jeans for $7.00 a pair. I also got two shirts and a sweater for $13.00 combined.

I was going to have my husband take pictures for all of you to see but I didn't do my hair or makeup after my run today so I decided to hold off on the pictures until another day. Now I can officially say that my next goal is a size 10. That seems crazy for me to write because I honestly have never worn a 10 in my entire life. I went from a child's size right to a 12 and then up and down from there. So I am not really sure what I will look like in a size 10 but I a excited and ready to find out.

I am really hoping by the summer that I will be in a 10.
A friend of mine gave me a beautiful Land's End swimsuit today and it is a size 10. It is absolutely adorable and I can't wait to wear it this summer. Not only wear it but wear it and feel good in it. I just can't wait. I tried it on today and it fits but is very tight. It is going to look so cute when it really fits me properly. It is a really good incentive for me. Something to keep me motivated and moving forward.

What do you use to keep yourself motivated to lose weight?

And The Number Is....Week 59 Weigh In

***Don't forget that today is the last day to enter to win the gift pack from The Healthy Pantry! It's a great prize and I can guarantee you that you don't want to miss out on this one. Click here to enter. ***

Another week gone by. It just seems like time is flying. Soon it will be warm again and I can wear flip flops and enjoy the sun. I can't wait!

This week was crazy but so much fun. I spent last Thursday and Friday cleaning my house and packing for our trip to New York. I did Jillian Michaels on both days but not while I was away in New York. I know, it's a 30 day challenge but honestly I got my period and I had a sick kid and I was away from home. So I used all of those as an excuse not to exercise. I regret it now but that's the decision I made so I have to live with it. I got back on track as soon as I got home on Monday and I am very motivated to finish the last 12 days of the Pudget 30 Day challenge.

I have kept up with my 1/2 marathon training and I ran 4 miles on Tuesday. That is the furthest I have run so far. Today I am going to run again (probably another 4 miles) and then on Saturday I plan to run six miles. I 'm not quite sure if I can do it but I am going to do my best.

I also had one of my favorite meals on Monday. Homemade cheeseburgers, green beans and baked perogies. Here's a picture. I used 90/10 hamburger, 2% cheese, and a light roll for my burger. If you have never made baked perogies you have to try them. They taste just like fried perogies only with way less fat. I spray my baking dish with cooking spray and then lay out the frozen perogies in a single layer and spray the tops with a little cooking spray and bake at 400 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes or until perogies are crispy and slightly browned. Then I spray the tops with a little cooking spray and a little salt. They are awesome!

Onto my weigh in for this morning. I weighed in at 171! I know I should be thrilled that I lost another 1.4 pounds but part of me is disappointed. I know it sounds stupid but I really was hoping to be in the 160's this week. I knew it wasn't very likely that this would happen but in the back of my mind I kept imaging that I would be. Oh well. Hopefully next week. Then I can be super thrilled. :)

I have other great news to share with you but it is going to have to wait until later tonight when I have time to post again. So be sure to check back tonight.

My Week In Review:

1. Exercise: no gym - sick baby and then trip to New York, 1/2 marathon training every other day, Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (missed 3 days).

2. Water: Yes -I have really been craving it. I'm telling you it really has helped me to have my Tupperware water bottle everywhere I go. It saves me tons of money when I'm out and I am always drinking. It really is worth the thirteen dollars.

3. Late night eating: No

4. Snacking: Chocolate Teddy Grahams, light ice cream, jalapeno pringle sticks (a new fav.).

5. Eating more fruits and veggies: lots of veggies and I actually ate lots of fruit this week. I ate it when we went out to the Indian restaurant and I have also been eating pears everyday. Yum, almost as good as watermelon. :)

What do I need to work on for next week:

I am going to continue my 1/2 marathon training every other day. By the end of the week I am going to try to be able to run 6 miles at a time. I will also be making myself do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred every day as part of the Pudget 30 Day Challenge.

I can't wait to hear how all of you did this week!

The All or Nothing Way Of Thinking

I was just talking to my sister this morning and we were discussing why we think that if we make a mistake and eat something we shouldn't we decide to ruin the entire day.

This conversation really got me thinking. This all or nothing way of thinking is really a hard thing to change. It is still something that I haven't completely conquered during my weight loss journey so far. So why do we do this? Why do we think that if we mess up once during the day we may as well eat whatever we want the rest of the day and start over tomorrow?

When I first started this journey this was my biggest struggle. I can't even tell you how many times I did this. I would eat something that I knew I shouldn't and then realize that there was no way I could stay in my points for the day so I am just going to eat whatever I want and enjoy the day. The worst part is that I would get upset with myself and then binge on whatever I could find. Usually it was something that I normally wouldn't let myself eat. It was such an awful feeling.

Every time I did this I felt like I was sabotaging myself yet I still did it over and over. Why? I don't know. I just kept doing it and feeling depressed because I felt like I couldn't control it. I felt so weak sitting on my kitchen floor with a box of cookies or cupcakes. I would think I already ruined today I guess I will just eat the rest of these and get it out of my system. What an awful feeling to hide in the kitchen and stuff my face.

Somewhere along my journey I started to realize that this all or nothing way of thinking is a bunch of crap. If I eat a cupcake I didn't ruin my diet. I just ate a cupcake and now I can't have as much for dinner. Yeah, it kind of stinks but in the long run I knew that I could lose weight even if I ate a cupcake or a cookie. Rather then gaining weight because I ate the whole box of cupcakes.

It was really hard to change my way of thinking because honestly I have used the all or nothing way of thinking ever since I can remember. I remember doing the same thing when I was living with my parents and dieting.

Don't expect your thinking to change overnight. If you think about it I had been thinking that way for at least 15 years so to think it was going to change overnight is crazy. It takes time and many mistakes along the way. I can't tell you how many times I binged and felt the same exact feeling. I knew that I shouldn't be doing it. I felt bad about it. I felt depressed and I felt fat. I knew that it wasn't the way I wanted to live my life and I knew it wasn't going to get me anywhere by eating like that. Yet I still did it.

I did it because it was an excuse. I could convince myself that this is the way things are and if I messed up I may as well do it right and enjoy it. What an awful way to think. Isn't it funny the way we use excuses to make ourselves think it is ok. We convince ourselves that we are going to feel better after we binge. When we know good and well that we aren't going to feel better. We are going to feel sad, depressed and guilty after we binge not better.

Right now I can look at it rationally because I have been on both sides. I have thought the all or nothing way and now I don't. Well most of the time I don't. I still have my relapses sometimes and I hate it. It is usually when I stressed or really tired and I use it as an excuse. My mind is so full of excuses it isn't even funny. Sometimes I even convince myself that I would rather be fat so that I can eat all of the cupcakes I want. When we all know that it isn't true. Cupcakes do not make me feel as good as I feel right now.

We have to be so careful with the way we think. If we let excuses rule our lives we will never lose weight. We will always think of a new excuse when one gets old. I have seen people that let excuses and lies keep them overweight and they honestly have themselves convinced that they eat perfect and they just can't figure out what they are doing wrong. Our minds are a crazy thing. They can make us or break us.

We need to figure out why our minds are thinking these things and make a conscious effort to take the high road. It is so hard to change our way of thinking. It is the hardest part of the journey but once you figure it out and get past it things will get so much easier. Don't expect it to happen overnight. It is a lot of trial and error. A lot of learning from mistakes along the way. So don't get discouraged when this happens to you. It is part of the journey. Next time you eat a whole box of cupcakes don't let yourself think about how you will start again tomorrow. Think about why you did it and really try to remember each time how it makes you feel. In the end you will realize that the temporary feeling of binging does not compare at all to the way you feel when you lose weight or drop a clothing size.

The all or nothing way of thinking is something that I think we all struggle with and maybe we will always struggle with to an extent. We need to realize that we have this problem before we can correct it. Then we can more forward and work hard to correct our way of thinking.

Do you/did you struggle with the all or nothing way of thinking? How do you/did you work though it?

My New Running Shoes

Look at the new running shoes my husband bought me for Valentine's Day! I think they are so adorable. On Saturday night when we went to the mall I picked these out. They are Woman's Nike Air Max+ 2009. I just love how cute they are. They make my foot look so little.

When I put them on they felt so soft and comfortable that I just couldn't pass them up. I thought for sure that they would help me run an extra 3 miles without any extra effort. It was definitely wishful thinking.

This afternoon I decided to take my new shoes for a test run. I put them on and they felt good but different then the shoes I have been running in. I warmed up and ran for 1/2 mile and decided that I couldn't tell any difference between these shoes and my walmart sneakers. So I put on my Walmart sneakers that seemed much more comfortable until I started running. Then I wasn't sure. So I ran for another half mile then switched back into the Nike's. After doing this a few times I decided that I really do like the Nike's and they do make a difference. I feel like a have more bounce in my step and my feet don't tingle when I run.

The biggest difference was after I ran 4 miles I felt like I could keep going and run even more. I didn't because my baby was crying. She has a little stomach bug. :( Next time I run I think I am going for 5 miles. I can't wait to try it. I also ran at a faster pace then usual just to test them out and I was able to do it the entire run. Another difference is that after I was done running I didn't feel completely drained of energy. I feel normal. Usually after my run I feel drained and like I need a nap. It was quite a difference with my new sneakers. Even though they aren't magic sneakers that make running feel easier I am still happy with them. I think they cause less stress on my body which will allow me to run further with less pain.

The real question is "Are they worth what they cost?" I'm not sure yet. I will let you know in a few weeks.

How much money are you willing to spend on a good pair of running shoes?

I Love New York!!!

Don't forget to enter The Healthy Pantry Giveaway. I will be randomly choosing the winner this Friday!

I'm back from my weekend getaway! I had such a wonderful time and I couldn't wait to tell all of you about it.

On Saturday morning I got up at 5 am to leave bright and early to go to my Aunt's house in New York. She just moved into a new house and we were so excited to see it. It is absolutely beautiful!

We arrived in New York in the late morning on Saturday and got to visit with my Aunt and my cousins. It was so nice to see them. We don't get to see them as much as I would like to so it is always so wonderful to spend time with them.

My Aunt is so wonderful. She bought all kinds of healthy food for the weekend because she knows that I am trying to eat healthy. For lunch that day she got Arnold's sandwich thins, lunch meat turkey, ham and cheese for sandwiches. She had this awesome hot mustard that really gave my sandwich such a great flavor. She also had grapes, cauliflower, peppers, celery and dip. We also had the new wheat thin chip type crackers to snack on. They were so good. It was so nice to have healthy options while we were there and everything she had was so good.

On Saturday night we went to a place called the Rotterdam mall. We had a good time walking through all of the stores but my favorite part was when my husband bought me something that I really wanted. I will tell you all about it later today. I am so excited.

My Mom and Aunt Diana

We ate dinner in the mall at a really good restaurant. I can't remember the name but the food was wonderful. This is what I had.

I was so nauseous when we got there that the only thing that sounded good was sweet potato fries so I got the only meal on the menu that had them. It was a steak that had BBQ sauce on it and was served on top of fried onions. I was shocked that it turned out to be the best steak I ever had. The fries were great too. I ate about half of them. Then for dessert I had chocolate cheesecake. I shouldn't have but it was so, so good.

This was my breakfast on Sunday morning. One English muffin toasted with a piece of bacon on it. It was great! Just enough bacon to taste good but not enough to make me feel bad for eating it.

Now onto my favorite part of the day. After Church we went to a wonderful Indian restaurant in Albany (I think). It was a buffet and it was amazing. I love Indian food but only get to eat it once a year if I'm lucky. We don't have any Indian restaurants close by so it is always a treat when we go to one. This Indian restaurant was so neat because I got to try so many different types of food. I tried a little of everything. Well almost everything. It was nice because I didn't overeat but I did enjoy. I loved everything! The only thing that I feel I ate to much of was the Naan (Indian bread). It is so good!

The buffet!

My first plate. My Aunt reminded me to take pictures after I ate most of the food on the plate. You can tell that I started with a lot more then what you see. It was so good that I completely forgot about taking pictures. That and it was 2pm and I was starving. :)

My second and last plate of food. :)

Awesome rice pudding!

My daughter and the fruit bowl. She would live on fruit if I let her.

I was a happy girl that day. Can you tell that I love Indian food?!!!

My baby and I

My husband enjoying the Indian food.

Can you tell what we did Sunday night? Yep, we roasted marshmallows over the fire and made S'mores. They were so good. I did limit myself to one. I learned my lesson when we were camping last summer and I gained like 6 pounds from eating S'mores.

My cousin Adam and his girlfriend Ashley.

Maddie eating her S'more!

These really aren't mine. I was just posing for a picture in front of the fire.

This is how we ended our wonderful weekend in New York.

Thanks for a great time Aunt Diana!!!

I Am Tough, I Am Strong!

That's what got me through today's session of the 30 Day Shred anyway. I really didn't want to do it today so I put it off until about 2pm. Then when I started it seemed really easy and my moves felt so strong. So I just kept telling myself "I can do this. I am tough and I am strong.". It seemed to help get me through today and I really did feel strong by the end.

I am really noticing a difference with my walk out push ups and plank jacks. They seem to not be so hard and they feel so smooth. Does that mean it's time to move on to Level 3? I hope not. I still don't think I am ready for that. I think I will enjoy level 2 a little bit longer.

What is your favorite exercise on the 30 Day Shred?

And The Number Is....Week 58 Weigh In

It has been another exciting week for me. The Pudget 30 Day Challenge is really kicking my butt in a good way! I am actually loving doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred every day. It is so challenging but I feel so accomplished when I am done. The only part that I am really finding hard is doing it on the days that I run. It seems like a little to much. All of that exercise sucks all of my energy out of me for the day. I am hoping my body adjusts because I really don't want to give up either during this Challenge. Only 19 more days to go in the 30 Day Challenge!

My 1/2 Marathon training has been going well. Not what I expected but still good. I expected it to be a lot easier. I thought that each week I could add and extra mile and I would be fine. What was I thinking? Can you tell that I have never been a runner and really don't have a clue on how to do it but I'm learning. :) Yesterday I had my best run. 3.5 miles and 600 calories burnt. It was great. I can't wait until I can run 4miles at a time. Actually I can't wait until this snow is gone and I can run outside. I think I am going to like it much more then this awful treadmill. I have been running every other day and it seems to be working well for me. I haven't hurt myself yet and I don't feel sore so that is a good sign. I think I will continue this schedule and keep pushing through to add more mileage. Even if it is only a 1/4 or 1/2 mile more a week.

And the moment you have been waiting for. The exercise is definitely helping with my weight loss. When I stepped on the scale this morning I was thrilled to see 172.4! Yep! That's 172.4! I have lost 44.2 pounds. Wow! I am so close to the 160's I can taste it. I really can't stop thinking about how close I am. I am so excited. Maybe in another two weeks if I work really hard I will be in the 160's. That would be so cool!

Another exciting non-weight related victory that should be coming up is a change in my clothes size. I think in another few pounds I should be able to fit into a size 12. That sounds crazy but I know it has to happen soon. It seems like I have been in a 14 forever. So I will be thrilled to go shopping for some new size 12 jeans. It will be so exciting. I will definitely take pictures and maybe make an all day event out of it! I know making and all day event out of it is sad but I really am going to be thrilled to be able to wear a size 12. It will be such a good feeling.

My Week In Review:

1. Exercise: no gym - sick baby, 1/2 marathon training every other day, Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.

2. Water: Yes -All of this exercise makes me very thirsty.

3. Late night eating: No

4. Snacking: Chocolate Teddy Grahams have been my favorite snack this week. In moderation.

5. Eating more fruits and veggies: lots of veggies. Still need to work on the fruits.

What do I need to work on for next week:

I would like to continue with the 3.5 mile runs every other day and try to work up to 3.75-4 miles by the end of next week. I will also be making myself do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred every day as part of the Pudget 30 Day Challenge.

How did you do this week? What did you find to be your biggest struggle?

3.5 Miles!!!! And A Great Recipe

That's right! I just ran 3.5 miles and burnt 600 calories. The calories include the warm-up and cool-down. I am so excited! It felt great to actually be able to run that much. I thought I would never get past the 3 mile mark. Finally. I also went outside and shoveled tons of snow for about 1/2 hour. What a good workout that was. I'm not sure where I got all of my energy today. My day actually started off pretty slow and tired but I made myself get on that treadmill and now I feel so much better and it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be today.

Some other good news. I made the best dinner ever. I'm not sure if it was because I was seriously starving or if it was really that good. My husband and daughter both said it was delicious so I guess I am going with it really was that good. I had chicken out to make tonight but I wasn't sure how I was going to make it or make with it. By the time I was done running I really didn't care. I just wanted to eat. So I looked through the cupboard and found Italian Salad Dressing mix with a little recipe for Parmesan Garlic Chicken. It called for four ingredients including the chicken so I had to go for it. It turns out that it is the best chicken I have ever had and so, so easy. This recipe is definitely a keeper. I served it with canned corn and candied sweet potatoes made with canned sweet potatoes drained, Brummel and Brown butter and Splenda. Everything was delicious.

Parmesan Garlic Chicken

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese - I am going to try using less next time (maybe 1/3 cup).
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 packet of Italian Salad Dressing Mix
6 Boneless Skinless Chicken breasts

Mix all ingredients except chicken in a bowl. Dip Chicken in water and then in cheese mixture. Place Chicken in a sprayed baking dish. Cover with foil and bake at 400 degrees for about 25-30 minutes. Then uncover and broil for a few minutes until it looks a little browned.

Now it is time for day 10 of The Pudget 30 Day Challenge. Jillian Michaels, here I come!!!

Guess What I Did Yesterday

Yesterday was my Dad's Birthday. To celebrate my family went to my sisters house for dinner. My sister and brother-in-law ordered a huge ham and pineapple pizza, a huge Stromboli and tons of wings (my dad's fav!). My Mom also brought our favorite (JC's) Chinese food. Have you figured out what I did yesterday?

I PIGGED OUT!!! Yikes! I ate two small slices or Stromboli, 1/3 slice of pizza, 5 huge wings and a very small amount of chicken and shrimp in garlic sauce and white rice. Did I mention that we also had a special dessert planned? My other sister thought it would be a good idea to make ice cream stormers for dessert instead of Birthday cake. So we got ice cream made with Splenda and every topping you could possible imagine (I'm not kidding!). My stormer was made of Chocolate Ice cream, Carmel sauce and pecans. It was awesome! It tasted more fattening then the wings. :) You know that can't be a good thing.

So that's how I spent my night last night and I don't regret any of it. Last year at this time I would have been so mad at myself for doing this but yesterday was different. Honestly I haven't eaten like that in weeks. I have done so well the past few weeks and I really do feel that it is ok every once in a while to eat more then you normally would. I will just be extra cautious the next few days and everything will even itself out. I do not believe that you have to deprive yourself to lose weight. You just have to know your body and make the right choices. I know that if I eat healthy all week and then eat more then I would one day that it is not going to stop me from losing weight that week. But I have also learned that if I do that more then once a week most likely I am not going to lose weight that week. If I do it more then three times in one week I am going to gain that week. It's funny the way you can figure out your body though out your weight loss journey.

I think the reason I have been able to lose the weight I have and keep it off is because I really am figuring out my body. I know what I can eat and how much I can eat in order to lose weight. I also know the amount that I can't eat if I don't want to gain weight. It is just really cool to finally understand what my body needs compared to what I think I need. Honestly this has been fun part of my weight loss journey. Really figuring things out and knowing that I can do this and that this is my new way of thinking and my new way of life. There is never a second that I don't think about what I put in my mouth. This isn't a bad thing. I don't sit there and think about it for ten minutes before I eat my meals. It is more of an automatic way of thinking. It's my new life and just the way my mind works now. It's kind of cool now that I think about the way I have changed over the last 14 months. Now when I sit down to a meal I think ok if I eat this I can only have two of these but if I eat this I can have a lot more.

When I first started my weight loss journey I used Weight Watchers online to help me think about my choices and figure out what I could and couldn't eat. I definitely give a lot of credit to that system. This is how I figured out how my body works and what I can and can't eat if I want to lose weight. A little over a year later I don't pay to use Weight Watchers online anymore but it is ingrained in my mind. I don't count my points on paper anymore but I do count them in my head. I don't figure out points with a points calculator anymore but I do figure them out in my head. I might not figure them out perfectly but I am almost always right if not very close (my mom and sister us WW Points so I talk to them about it a lot).

This journey really is becoming what I wanted it to be. I wanted this to be a new way of life not just a diet and over a year later I really feel like it is ingrained in my head and it is my new way of life. It is my automatic way of thinking and I like that. I'm not saying that I don't fall back into my old ways at times because like everyone else I do. But when I do fall back into my old habits I know that I am doing it and I feel guilty the entire time until I get myself back on track. The new way of thinking definitely helps to keep my weight gain to a minimum.

I don't mean for this post to sound like I have learned it all and now I am perfect and have figured out the secret to being skinny. I am not perfect and never will be but I am learning so much though out my weight loss journey. I am realizing the more I learn about myself and weight loss the easier it gets to lose weight. Notice I said easier. It is never easy to lose weight but the longer you do it the more your brain gets used to the new way of healthy thinking and you have less struggles along the way.

It's funny that when I look back at my old posts about binging it brings back so many memories. Binging was one of my hardest habits to get past but over a year later I almost never binge. I just don't think about it anymore but believe me I did struggle with it a lot in the past. Click here if you are interested in reading about some of my binging issues. This is just one of my many bad habits that I have been able to overcome. I'm sure I still have many more to go. Like fighting with myself to exercise everyday. :) Now if only that would come naturally.

Pretty much the point I am trying to get to is that it does get easier. It didn't start out easy for me. It was so, so hard. But almost 14 months later I can really see a difference. I can see how I don't have to make myself think about all of the things you really need to think about when you first start trying to lose weight. A lot of it comes naturally now. I still fight the urges to overeat but is just an easier fight. So to all of you that are in the early stages of your weight loss journey I want to tell you that it does get easier. It isn't always so hard and it isn't always so disappointing when you make a mistake. So don't get mad a yourself if you make a mistake or you don't lose every week. It is a slow journey and a slow process and just remember that the mental and physical changes do not happen overnight. It takes a while before you start to notice these changes but if you stick with it you will see them and they will be SO WORTH IT!

What Positive changes have you noticed along your weight loss journey and what challenges did you/do you find the hardest to overcome?

9 Days Down - 21 Day To Go!

I just completed day 9 of the 30 Day Challenge. I must say I am really starting to enjoy the crunches. Today's workout of the 30 Day Shred went by so fast. I was really excited when Jillian Michaels said only one more minute of abs left. It is always so wonderful when a workout doesn't drag on.

You are all doing so great with this challenge! I can't believe how many of you are sticking to it even with the stresses of life (sick, sick kids, travel). I am just so impressed. Do you know what even impresses me more. Those of you who couldn't do The Shred for a day or two but jumped right back into it when you were able to. Good for you! It is so much easier just to give up when you don't do what you planned to do. But many of you decided that you don't care if you win the contest because you are doing this for you. That makes me so happy. :)

This challenge is really going to change us in so many ways. I can't wait to see the physical results but I also can't wait to hear how this challenge has changed your way of thinking about yourself and exercise. I think we are all going to realize that we are worth it because we really are!

The Healthy Pantry Giveaway and Review!

Today I have a wonderful giveaway and review to share with you. I have been so excited the last few weeks because I have been reviewing some wonderful tasting food. I could barely wait to tell you about it.

A few weeks ago I was asked, by a Keith Lauver, CEO of The Healthy Pantry, to review some of their products. I was so excited when I received so many of Keith's favorites in the mail the next week and I was shocked by the sophisticated packaging. Each meal kit was packaged in it's own sturdy, white box with most of the ingredients needed for the meal. Of course I had to use a few of my own ingredients depending on the meal. For example for the Turkey and Wild Rice soup I had to provide the Turkey (I actually substituted chicken because it was on sale that week). I love that each box tells you what is included and also a small grocery list. The ingredients, recipe and nutrition information are all stated neatly on the back of the package. I just love the packaging. Can you tell? :)

Here is a little information that I received from Keith about The Healthy Pantry.
"The Healthy Pantry is revolutionizing the way we prepare food. The average family only has about 20 minutes to prepare meals. And with so little time, what are the options for a delicious, easy, and healthy meal? The solution is easy: delicious recipe kits that help busy families prepare their favorite comfort foods in 10 minutes or less. On average, our meals cost less than $3 per serving— less expensive than take-out or the drive-thru! And the best part: our quick recipe kits are healthy and nutritious."

I am going to start my review by telling you about my favorite food from The Healthy Pantry. Seriously, check out these pancakes! Can you see why they are my favorite? Saying they were awesome is an understatement. They were actually the best pancakes I have ever had in my life. You all know that I do honest reviews even when it is hard to write them. So I am not just saying they were the best. They really were that good. I have never tasted a pancake as good as The Healthy Pantry's Whole Grain Apple Cinnamon Pancakes. They had a distinct apple flavor and they were so filling. I ate two of them and I actually had to make myself finish the second one because I was so full. This was definitely a plus. I am so buying these! Click here to check them out. The price is great and they are really worth every penny.

Some of my delicious pancakes!

Next up is another one of my favorites. The Healthy Pantry's Skillet Lasagna was as good as it looks. Oh so cheesy and so easy to make since you just put everything in the skillet and let it cook. The best part is that it is make with whole wheat pasta and you can add as little or as much cheese as you want. I added fat free ricotta to mine and it turned out perfect. The whole family enjoyed this one. Click here to find it on The Healthy Pantry's website. Definitely not a bad price for a meal this big and easy to make.

This one is my daughters favorite. She loved Ma's Sloppy Joe's! She actually ate 1 and 1/2 sandwiches and wanted more. I had to stop her because I was afraid she would get sick. I also enjoyed the Sloppy Joe's but they have a very different taste then I am used to. My family makes our sloppy joe's very sweet so I was a little surprised when I took a bite. That is pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the flavor of these and they smelled great while they were cooking. Another benefit of this meal kit is that it also comes with Apple Baked Beans. They were really neat and made my house smell amazing. If you have never tried apple baked beans before you really need to. I think they should make candles that smell this good. :) It was a big meal and my whole family including my parents gave it a thumbs up!

The kit I made next was a snack kit and definitely my families favorite. Look at the picture and you can see why. Yum!!! These are Whole Grain Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies. I was shocked by how many cookies this mix makes. If I remember correctly it was supposed to make 24 but I think I must have made them smaller then suggested because I got 36 out of the mix and they were still good sized cookies. Those are mine on the plate. The only problem was that they were so good that I wanted to eat them all. Luckily I had some help. I sent a dozen to my parents and let my husband and kids enjoy them for a few days. I was surprised at how easy they were to make and how good a Whole Grain cookie can taste. They were awesome and I will be buying some in the near future. They will be perfect to have on hand when I need a snack to take to my daughters school or even a last minute picnic. We were all very excited about the price and the taste of these cookies. Click here to check them out on the Healthy Pantry's website.

Last but not least was the Cranberry Wild Rice Turkey Stew. The night I made this my house smelled better then it ever has. It smelled and tasted like a stew you would get in a restaurant. The cranberries definitely gave it a wonderful and distinct flavor. I never expected something that has cranberries in it to taste so good. Wow was I surprised! I made mine with chicken instead of turkey because I got chicken at a great price that week. I'm sure the turkey tastes great too. I also made a loaf of homemade wheat potato bread to go with it. It was an excellent combination and a wonderful filling meal.

I just think this company is great. Keith, the CEO, is so sweet and personable and he really put his heart into this company. Click here to read about Keith's weight loss journey and how he became a healthier person while starting this wonderful company to help others.

Did I mention that they also sell breads, cakes, protein bars and so many others. What do I want to try next? Hmmm? Real Food" Cocoa Cake, Fruit Protein Bars, Pineapple Pepper Meatloaf with Brown Rice, and of course the Wild Salmon Patties with Quinoa and Veggies . Everything looks so good.
I can't wait to try more meal kits from The Healthy Pantry. If you are worried about the price don't be. The prices are really reasonable for a meal kit. Although if you are going to order and you want to save a few dollars you can get free shipping by placing an order over $60. Not bad! I really hate paying for shipping so I think this is the route I am going to take when I place my order.

And what you all have been waiting for. The GIVEAWAY!!!!

Tons To Talk About!

I have a lot to write about today including a Giveaway, The Beck Diet book, exercise, new food finds and more! But for now I am going to be catching up on a few things around the house. My daughter got croup on Friday night and has been miserable and up in the middle of the night the past three nights. It is really wearing on me.

I did do the Shred all weekend and I am proud of that but it was so hard when I was so tired. I also had a 2 1/2 mile run on Sat. which felt great. I have tons of other things to tell you about but I will have to do it a little later today. I have to clean my house and take care of my sick baby right now. I will try to write again during nap time. :)

Good luck to everyone doing Day 8 of the 30 Day Challenge! We can do this!

Friday, February 5, 2010

Done with Day 5 of our 30 Day Challenge (doing Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred 30 Days in a row). I am sitting here with sweat literally dripping off of my face but I feel good! What a workout. I thought it was going to get easier but I keep pushing myself harder so it really doesn't seem any easier. :) I did notice today that the crunches are getting much easier. I am so much better at them then I used to be. I can do them properly and for the full amount of time. It's exciting because I can really feel it working.

I am sore today. Most of you have emailed me with the same problem. It definitely makes it harder to do when you are sore. Today my knees where shaking during some parts because I am sore. Hopefully we will get less sore as our bodies get stronger.

I am getting ready to do some grocery shopping. I will let you know if I find anything new or interesting. Good luck to everyone that still has to do day 5 of the challenge. Just remember all of those great prizes.

Check back later today for an awesome Giveaway!!!

New Food Find and Pudget 30 Day Challenge Day 4

Check out this great new snack I found at Walmart on the other day. They are Chocolate Covered Soynuts made by South Beach Living. They taste amazing and you don't have to feel bad eating them. They taste just like chocolate covered peanuts but they are actually soy beans that have fried in soybean oil and then dipped in dark chocolate. The nutrition info is 100 calories, 6 grams of fat, 2 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein. It is such a tasty and healthy snack for a little less then $4.00 for a box of 7 packages and only 2 P's per serving. All I can say is Awesome! You've got to try them. You can find them in with the protein bars and powders at Walmart.

Today is day 4 of the Pudget 30 Day Challenge! I did level 2 of the 30 Day Shred and I was hurting so bad. I think level 3 yesterday really made my arms and shoulders sore. Yuck. But I survived and I am ready for day 5. This is so much more fun doing this with all of you then just doing it by myself. It also helps that it is a challenge and I love challenges! Not that I can win the great prizes being offered but I just like the challenge. That and I can't wait to see who wins the Makeover from All About You Hair Salon by Joy and the $75 worth of Tupperware from Nyky Crabb and of course the gift basket of my favs! I am going to be so jealous of the winners of this challenge. Just kidding. I am going to be really excited for all of you and myself when we complete these hard 30 Days of The Shred.

You guys are all doing really great! Keep up the good work and remember that we are all sore together but it will be way worth it in the end. :)

Why Is This So Hard???

I am sitting here drenched in sweat and feeling like I am going to get sick. Why is it so hard for me to run?

I just ran three miles and I felt like I wasn't going to be able to do it today. Is this normal? Is it supposed to be this hard? When I used to look at runners I used to be so jealous that they could run so easily. Now when I look at runners I think is it easy for them or are they struggling like me. I have know idea what the answer to that question is because I have never been able to run before this so I'm not sure what it is supposed to feel like or how much I should be able to run without feeling like I am going to die. If anyone has the answers, please, please share them with me.

I'm wondering if I need a good pair of running shoes. I have a pair of inexpensive running shoes that my husband and daughters picked out for me for Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfy they are. The only problem that I find is that by the time I have ran about 2 - 2 1/2 miles my feet start feeling a little tingly. I'm not sure if this is normal when you run that much or if I just need a better pair of shoes. I have been reading this month's issue of Runner's World and they have a special section of review on running shoes. They range from $80 - $140 or more. It looks like I am going to have to start saving some money. I'm just afraid to put that much money into a pair of shoes if they don't do the job. Any suggestions on good running shoes?

What do you do when you run to make running more exciting?

And The Number Is....Week 57 Weigh In

What an awesome week! I was able to start training again for my half marathon, get back to the gym and start the "Pudget 30 Day Challenge". It has been a great week for exercise.

And check out what all of that exercise did for my weight. When I got on the scale this morning I was more then excited to see 174 pounds! It has been so, so long since I have been down this low. That is a 2.6 pound loss for the week. I am feeling great. I think I am on a weight loss high.

I can't believe how close I am to being in the 160's. For a while it seemed impossible to get to that weight. Now I am only 5 pounds away from being in the 160's. It is just so exciting.

What I am most excited about is thinking that this summer I am going to be in the 160's or even 150's in a bathing suit. I am just so excited to go bathing suit shopping in a few months. I might actually look good in one this year. It's going to be so much fun to take my girls to the pool and not be embarrassed with how I look in my swim suit.

My Week In Review:

1. Exercise: running, elliptical, weights, resistance bands, exercise ball, stepper and Jillian Michaels.

2. Water: Yes - I really picked up my water intake this week. I think it really gave my weight loss a nice boost.

3. Late night eating: No

4. Snacking: Usually one snack in between lunch and dinner and sometimes a little low-fat girl scout ice cream before bed. :)

5. Eating more fruits and veggies: I ate homemade applesauce made with Splenda and lots of veggies. I really need to find some kind of fruit that I like at this time of year. All I want is Watermelon and they are to small and expensive.

What do I need to work on for next week:

I need to keep up with the water intake. It really seems to be helping. I also need to run approx. every other day. I really hate it but I am going to do it anyway. And of course I need to continue to do Jillian Michaels, 30 Day Shred, every day. I feel so good after I do her workouts.

I also need to track my points a little better. I have become very relaxed with guessing at points and I really should calculate them and write them down when I eat something.

Blackberry Barbecued Pork Tenderloin:

Tonight's dinner turned out really great so I had to share it with all of you. I made Blackberry Barbecued Pork Tenderloin, Korean Rice and Succotash (corn and Lima beans) from my in-laws garden. It was all so yummy! Check out this huge plate of food. I ate everything but 1/3 of my rice. I am stuffed.

Here is the recipe in case anyone is interested.

Blackberry Barbecued Pork Tenderloin:

- 1 1/4 pounds pork tenderloin
- salt and pepper
- 1/2 cup Smucker's Seedless Blackberry Sugar Free Jam
- 3 Tablespoons prepared thick barbecue sauce
- 3/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- brown rice, if desired
- Finely chopped fresh parsley, if desired

1. Spray grill grates with no-stick cooking spray. Heat grill to 350 degrees to 375 degrees. Generously season tenderloin with salt and pepper.

2. Mix blackberry jam, barbecue sauce and seasoning in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on High for 30-40 seconds; stir to blend.

3. Grill pork, turning occasionally, 16-20 minutes (or until thermometer reads 160 degrees). Baste liberally wit 1/4 cup blackberry barbecue sauce during last 5 minutes of cooking. Transfer tenderloin to platter, tent with foil and allow to rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve pork over brown rice, drizzled with additional sauce and sprinkled with chopped parsley, if desired.

I did mine in the oven for about 35 minutes at 325 degrees before I basted it and then let it cook another 10 minutes.
