A Plan For A Happier Me!

I'm sure you are all surprised that I am actually writing on my blog. ;) I haven't given up. I have just been so busy with work and family that I haven't had time to sit down and write lately. Christmas time really through me for a loop this year.

It didn't help that I got a stomach bug the Monday before Christmas and today is the first day that I am actually feeling better. Talk about a long lasting stomach bug. The worst of it was before Christmas and I was able to enjoy the celebration of Christmas and the birth of our Savior.

It's hard to believe that it is almost 2012. I'm excited to start a new year but sad that a year has past without being able to lose the weight I gained back. It's very frustrating but I barely have any time to even think about it. Except for the unhappy moments when I look in the mirror.

I've decided that since I started my journey in Jan of 2009 that I am going to recommit to it in Jan. of 2012. I have had off work since Dec. 24th and I don't go back until Jan. 3rd. I am hoping to use this time to spend mostly with my little girls who need their mommy but also to catch up on life. The past 5 months that I have been working have been a whirlwind. It has been nuts trying to accomplish everything in such little time. I have succeeded so far but I feel so close to sinking sometimes. It's very frustrating and my Fibromyalgia is not handling the stress and lack of sleep very well.

I am going to spend the next few days trying to come up with a plan to make our lives simpler. I want to come home from work refreshed, eat a healthy meal, spend quality time with my family, keep my house clean, get the amount of rest that my body requires and wake up the next morning without rushing everyone off to school, daycare and work.

Is this possible? I'm determined to find out. I don't know how much longer I can keep going the way I am without sinking. I'm determined to succeed!

The big question is, "How will I do it?". I don't have the exact answer yet but I am going to do my best to find it.

I do however know what isn't working.

I love my job but I need to remember that it is just a job and I need to stop bringing the stress home with me. I am the type that likes to perfect everything and have it all complete when I leave each night. In this job I don't have the time in the day to do it all on my own and I need to learn to be ok with that. This may just be the hardest thing to change for me.

Change #1
Leave work at work!

My diet! My diet is not working. I haven't gained any weight in the last five months but I haven't lost either. Seriously, I am in survival mode right now. I run around like crazy which seems to burn those extra calories I am eating. I don't have the time to care about what I eat so I just eat what is quick. I have tried time and time again to change this but then something comes up (sickness, overtime at work, Holidays, events and everything in between) and throws me right back into my horrible eating habits. I'm so sick of it and I am completely unhappy with myself when I am eating and feeding my family like this.

Change #2
Plan, Cook & Eat Healthy Meals! It's a lot of work but it needs to be done. I need to do my best to find convenient and quick, healthy meals with quick and easy clean-up. Is anyone else thinking Crock pot?

Exercise! What's that? That's how I feel some days. This is always one of my biggest downfalls. Getting enough exercise in or in my case getting any exercise. That is where this post comes in:

Change #3
Exercise, Exercise, Exercise! I just purchased the Fitbit Ultra Wireless Activity Plus Sleep Tracker. I am super excited about it. I actually wanted a BodyBug and decided to research it last night. I have wanted a BodyBug for years and I thought I would use a little of my Christmas money to buy myself one. While researching I came across this article. I never heard of the the Fitbit before and the article made me want to learn more. I did more research and decided to order it today. As much as I think I would like the BodyBug more I decided to go with the Fitbit because of it's size. If I worked in a gym the BodyBug would have been what I purchased but because I work in an office I decided to go with the Fitbit. It's much smaller and easier to hide. The bodybug can be hidden under your shirts but will still show a little bulk and in the summer there would be no way to hide it.

The Fitbit looks really neat. Check it out here. There are good and bad reviews on it. I do feel that the good reviews out way the bad ones and I decided to give it a try. I am so excited to have something track my calories burned. This will an awesome motivator for me and hopefully exactly what I need. It also has a free website to track you food and calories burned. The thing I am most interested in is the Sleep Tracker. I suffer with insomnia from my Fibromyalgia. I am hoping that the sleep tracker will help me figure out what works best for me to get the best sleep possible. I am so, so excited and I really hope the Fitbit will help give me the jump start I need for the coming year. I should have it this Thursday (Love Amazon Prime!) and I will let you know what I think of it.

Change #4
Get to bed at a decent hour. This is so hard for me. I just can't find enough time in the day to get everything done before bed. I'm not sure how to solve this problem. If I can plan everything else I may be able to have everything in order at night and then get to bed on time. I hope! ;)

I really need to focus on planning. I want to start the new year spending more time with God. I know that I need to make this work even if it means less sleep. My goal is to start my day with God's Word. A daily devotional and some quiet time with God will be an awesome start to my day. Everyday! I'm not saying that I don't spend time with God now. It is just that I need to make it a priority not one of those things that you do when you have extra time.

Change #5
Time with God - Every morning I will wake up to a quiet house, a cup of coffee and God's word. Doesn't that sound amazing? I will certainly need to pray that I can get up earlier then normal but I know with God's help I can do this!

I really need to work on making mine and my family's life less stressful. The more stressful life is the more miserable and on edge we all are. It's not good for our marriage or for our children.

Change #6
Eliminate as much Stress as possible - I am the person that is late for almost everything. I try to fit to much into every second of every day and then I just can't do it. I hate to admit it but I can't do it all. This horrible habit of mine makes my whole family miserable. I need to stop trying to do everything. I need to set limits. How do I do this? Honestly, I'm not quite sure. I have always been the type of person that can't do anything normal. I have to do it above and beyond what is expected. I have lived like this for 31 years. I don't know how to change now. Baby steps, I guess? I just need to figure out where to start. This is going to take some thought.

Now that I have these 6 Challenges in front of me I think I have some work to do. Do you ever sit down and think of things you need to work on? I actually think it is helpful to write these things down. Otherwise you will forget them and not take the time to work on them. I am going to print off my list and keep it in front of me daily to remind me of what I want to change and why. I will update you on my progress in these six areas.

I really hope that by working on all of these areas it will all lead to weight loss and a happier me. What are your goal for the new year?

So great to hear from you! Glad to hear that you are enjoying time off with your family. I am, too, and it feels great! I'm also so ready to get back in control of my eating. Let's do this together! Happy New Year!

we are right there with you trying to juggle work full time and the kiddos. we too try to find ways to be less stressed. to be honest we find solutions like packing lunches and freezing them on the weekend but inevitably stop doing it. the only solution to the omg I'm sinking feeling I've found is to take a day off of work here and there for sanity sake.

Angie, Thanks for commenting. I'm so glad you enjoyed time off with your family. It was wonderful for me but remined me how much I miss being a stay at home mom. :( I love my job but nothing beats being with your kids. I hope you were able to get in control of your eating. It is so hard. I had good days this week and bad days. The good seem to outway the bad so I'm not complaining. You are right! Let's do this together!

Vanessa, I like your idea of freezing lunches on the weekend. If I have some time next weekend I may try it.I do like the idea of taking a day off here and there. ;)

Secret Mom Thoughts, Thanks for the encouragement. I think half the battle is coming up with a plan. You can do it!

Dawn, Thanks for the encouraging words!

Crock Pot Light, Thanks for sharing your site. I will be sure to check it out. I am always up for new recipes. :)
