Weighing In Twice A Week?

I have been thinking about weighing in twice a week and I wanted to find out what everyone else thinks about this.

I have noticed that I seem to get off track in the middle of the week and then when it comes closer to weigh in I really get my butt moving so I don't gain weight for the week. So I thought maybe if I start posting my weight twice a week I will have an easier time staying motivated. I know I have read about not weighing yourself more then once a week because your weight fluctuates so much every day. So I don't know if this is such a great idea.

I would love to hear what all of you think about the subject. I really feel like I need that mid-week motivation and I could really use some advice.

I think you should do whatever is good for you! Just don't let the scale decide your mood for the day :)

I am a daily weigher and believe you have to do what works best for you! Twice a week sounds like a great plan to me!

you know some might argue that its bad and some will argue that its good. I weigh myself everymorning and every night, and I am not sure if its good or bad. I think it does keep in check, when i gain a couple pounds, and then it also plays mind games that i can be bad when i lose a few. Try it for a week or so, and see if it makes a difference. Good luck!

In my experience, weighing in once a week is the most you should. Like you said, the weight can fluctuate all the time. Your best option is to weigh in once per week at the same time.

Not knowing what your weight is should keep you in check for the next weigh in. If I saw mid-week that my weight was on track I might take it as a license to eat poorly because I'm doing so well.

Just my two cents!

I don't think it's that bad of an idea. I've read the research too, about weighing yourself every day, but I think twice a week could be okay - and it sounds like it would definitely help your motivation. Maybe you could use it as a motivational weigh-in only, and only let the weigh-in at the end of the week "count". That way, you could see how your week is going.

I am about to start in earnest with my working out and eating better. It's been hard lately because we've had friends come stay on the weekends, and I have a wedding this weekend to go to. It's hard to eat "healthy" and exercise when everyone else is eating cheese dip and bratwurst.
But, next week the hubby goes away for business for the next 4 to 5 weeks (weekends, he comes home) - so I have no excuse! I'll be sure to check in and let you know how it's going!

I'm with Manda - I weigh every day, usually 2x a day. I know there will be ups and downs so I expect that and I don't get frustrated as long as the general trend is down. When I'm focused it really helps keep me motivated. Seeing a loss when I've been good makes me want to be even better, and seeing no loss makes me be more truthful with myself and make adjustments. If you start weighing 2x a week and find its only hindering your mind and focus, then you can stop.

When I weigh myself between weekly weigh ins, I have found one of three things happens: 1. I have gained a pound and I get angry and discouraged (and tend to say the heck with it and eat what I shouldn't), 2. I have not lost anything and get frustrated because I've done everything "right" and still haven't lost and then I tend to throw up my hands and say the heck with it and eat what I shouldn't, or 3. I have lost something and then I get complacent and happy with myself and "celebrate" by eating something I shouldn't.... Hmmmm. There's a pattern there I think! I will confess, though, to weighing myself compulsively on weigh in day before I go to the meeting. I also wear exactly the same clothes every week so I can get a "true picture" of what's going on.

I'm a sporadic weigher. I have my once a week (Tuesday) but I find that it helps to keep myself aware of how I'm doing in between. However, I agree with the earlier posters that it shouldn't impact your mood for the day. When it is used as a measuring stick, it can be helpful.

I am a once a week believer. If I got on it more I would stress. I know I fluctuate from day to day so a daily WI would make me MAD! lol I think once a week is PLENTY for me. lol :)

I asked for advice on this a while back too. Personally I weigh every morning but only after I give myself a little talk to say this will not define my day. I enjoy being in the know about what is going on. So far it is working for me.

You just got to do whatever makes you feel empowered. It is different for all of us.

Sounds like you have a good rationale for weighing in twice a week. Why not give your theory a try? If it doesn't help to keep your motivation high, let it go.
